Usually, the screw is driven by a screwdriver, alien wrench or other device, the tip of these devices fits in the opening of the fastener head. The shaft can be cylindrical or conical, but regardless of its shape, it has spiral ribs called threads. In contrast, a bolt is a threaded metal rod or pin with a wrench head (usually hexagonal or square) around which a wrench or other device is installed for tightening or loosening. Use a nut to fix the other end. Wood screws have pointed (or small ring) tips; bolts are flat heads.

The basic varieties as well as screws and bolts are:

As the name suggests, wood screws are intended to be used to fix wood or other materials to wood. Wood screws have a tapered shank and are usually screwed into about two-thirds of their length. They can be purchased in flat, round or dome-shaped profiles. The length varies widely, from a fraction of an inch to five inches or more.

Phillips heads, slot drives and other drives are usually available. Brass, steel, aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel and corrosion-resistant materials are all used to make wood screws.

In appearance, drywall screws have a horn-shaped neck, and their head is usually a Phillips groove (although square-head drivers can also provide a thinner head). The thread usually runs through the entire length of the screw. Sold in various sizes, including one inch, one inch, five-eighths and three inches. Drywall screws are most commonly used for fixing wall panels, but they are also suitable for fixing cork and artificial wood.

Machine screws used to assemble metal parts are usually made of steel or brass with flat, round, oval or cylindrical (called filler) heads. Although they can also be used with nuts, machine screws are most often screwed directly into threaded holes in metal workpieces.

Like other screws, the length and specifications of machine screws are different, but the pitch is also different. Therefore, when buying machine screws, you must specify the length, specifications and pitch, such as "I need a box of 8-32 x Vi screws." 8 is a gauge; 32 refers to the thread, that is, there are 32 threads per inch; the length of the screw half.

Sheet metal screws are designed to hold metal elements together, such as stovepipes, waterproof panels and other metal components. They are self-tapping screws, which can be made of brass or steel, and have flat, round, oval or round heads.

This type of fastener is interchangeably called a lag screw or a lag bolt (a lag bolt may be a more precise name), and it has a tapered shaft with a coarse thread about half the length. The lag bolt head is hexagonal or square.

Although the head of the square head bolt is driven by a wrench or socket, the square head bolt is essentially a longer, stronger version of a common wood screw. A common household use is to build on deck. Generally, square head bolts from 3 inches to 6 inches long can be purchased, although square head square heads can be found as long as 1 foot or longer.

The cooktop bolts used to be bolts with coarse threads (usually mechanical bolts with finer threads). However, the terms used today generally refer to bolts that are intended to be used with nuts (not the same as machine screws or bolts). The entire length of the shank of the stove bolt is threaded. Stove bolts are usually between three-eighths to four inches in length and one-eighth to three-eighths in diameter.

The most common transport bolt is a round head, with a special-shaped shaft directly below it. Usually the shape is square (although finned and ribbed varieties are also sold). Regardless of its shape, the journal is set in the opening of the workpiece and prevents the bolt from turning when the nut is tightened or loosened. Usually, only one-third to one-half of the bolt length is threaded.

The transport bolts have a wide range in length, from one inch or less to twenty inches or more, and diameters from about three-thirds to three-quarters of an inch. Flat washers are usually used for mechanical bolts between nuts and wooden surfaces. These are rod-shaped threaded bolts with square or hexagonal wrench heads. When used with nuts, two wrenches are required to tighten the machine bolts.

. Flat disks called washers are used to prevent damage to the fastening material, help fix bolts or nuts, or cover holes larger than bolts or bolt heads. Nuts, like screws, have a variety of shapes and sizes, including hexagonal, square, wing-shaped and acorn-shaped (or cap-shaped) nuts, with flanges attached (flange nuts look like washers 233). Nut components), as well as other varieties.

As many screws and bolt types as possible, and even more hangers, fixtures and fasteners. There are molly bolts and toggle bolts. Tighten the eye and shoulder hooks; lead, hollow wall, nylon and plastic anchors; and plenty of other options.
